A wood fired hot tub rewards a slower pace. The fire is lit, the warmth builds, and the water takes its time. Before that ritual finds a place in your life, there are practical things worth understanding first.
How hot does a wood fired hot tub get?
A wood fired hot tub reaches the same soaking temperatures you would expect from a conventional spa. The ideal range is 101 to 104°F, with 104°F the maximum. The difference is not the end temperature but the way the heat builds: gradually, quietly, through fire rather than an element.
That slower rise is part of what draws people to wood fired soaking in the first place. There is time to settle in and be present with the process rather than waiting for a thermostat. Add a log and the heat climbs. Let the fire ease back and the water settles with it. No pump, no mechanical hum.

One instruction matters more than any other on a wood fired tub: never light the fire before it is filled. Fill to the line marked on the tub, or at least 4 inches above the chimney collar, and keep the water there the whole time the firebox is hot. Stop adding wood at around 95°F and let the water climb the rest of the way on its own.
How long does it take to heat up?
Heat time depends on the size of the tub, the starting water temperature, the weather, and how efficiently the firebox transfers heat into the water.
Expect 1.5 to 5 hours depending on size and conditions: around two hours for the Small, three for the Standard, and about five for the Large. Not instant, but very manageable once you know the rhythm of your own tub.
Wood matters too. Dry, seasoned hardwood burns longer and more steadily than softwood. Keeping the lid on while it heats holds warmth at the surface and shortens the wait.
In practice this rarely feels like waiting. It feels like preparation. Light the fire, let the warmth build, step out once or twice to tend it, and by the time the water is ready, so are you.
How well does it hold heat?
A tub should not only heat well, it should hold that warmth between soaks. That is design: insulation, lid use, materials, and how well the structure limits loss through the walls, floor and waterline.
A poorly insulated tub loses heat overnight and needs a substantial reheat the next day. A well-insulated one needs only a small top-up.

A wood fired tub suits cold-weather soaking because the heat source is simple, direct and unaffected by ambient temperature. What matters is whether the tub is well insulated, properly covered and suited to the climate.
The Wood Fired has been tested heating in ambient conditions as cold as minus forty-four degrees Celsius. If the tub is used regularly, a good lid and a simple routine keep it warm between soaks. If it will sit unused for long stretches in freezing weather, draining it properly is the safer option. What size works best?
The right size comes down to how you will actually use the tub, not its maximum capacity. Too large takes longer to heat and uses more water than you need. Too small feels limiting once friends join.

All three share the same 38 inch standard depth, which allows fuller immersion than most conventional spas. A 44 inch depth is available on Wood Fired and Hybrid, and 44 or 48 inches on Electric. Which heating system suits your property?
All three models share the same tub. What changes is the heating, and that shapes daily routine, running costs and where the tub can go.
Wood Fired
No electricity, no infrastructure beyond a flat surface and water. The obvious choice for off-grid cabins, lakeside retreats and island properties. It can also go wherever the view is best, rather than wherever the power reaches. A 120V plug-and-play filtration system can be added later if you would rather not drain and refill after each use.
Electric
The same tub with a detachable 240V heating and filtration system, and it does more than hold a temperature:
- Temperature and schedules. Set anywhere from 50 to 104°F from a built-in touchpad or the Wi-Fi app, with timer-based schedules for both heating and filtration, so the tub is ready when you want it and idle when you do not
- Filtration included. A 50 micron sediment filter holds a single fill for three to four months, and no UV or ozone needed
- Close to silent. One 30 gpm jet at the lowest workable horsepower rather than a bank of jets and pumps, giving gentle hydromassage without the noise
- Concealed but serviceable. The whole system sits inside weatherproof cedar steps against the tub, a 2-in-1 step and powerhouse, with every part reachable and replaceable rather than sealed in foam
- Still no crane. Pre-assembled at 200 to 300 lbs empty, rolled into place by two people. The electrician is the only trade involved, on a dedicated 30 amp, 4kW circuit with an 18 amp draw

Hybrid
Both systems in the same tub, running either alone or together, so you heat it however the season or the occasion calls for. Light the fire when you want the ritual, and let the electric side hold temperature, run filtration and keep freeze protection going when you do not. How will you get water to it?
This shapes more decisions than people expect. For most residential properties a garden hose is all that is needed.
For off-grid and remote properties the question is more involved. A battery-powered pump can draw from a lake, river or the ocean. Some owners add filtration to a Wood Fired specifically to reduce water use, since one fill can then be held for three to four months rather than emptied after each visit.
Ocean fills are changed every five to seven days rather than left standing, and the tub is rinsed between fills. On an Electric or Hybrid intended for ocean water, a titanium heating coil is specified at the time of order. More in handling water access at a remote property.

How does shipping and delivery work?
Many people assume a wood fired hot tub arrives in pieces, needs a crane, or involves complicated installation. AlumiTubs arrive fully pre-assembled. No on-site construction, no plumbing, no installation process.
The tub ships to your nearest freight depot for pickup by default, with curbside delivery available on Small and Standard tubs. For pickup you will want a trailer at least 4 by 7 feet, or a truck with a six foot bed and 46 inches between the wheel wells, plus two 20 ft ratchet straps.
Once on site it rolls into place by hand, traveling on its side at 38 inches, which passes through most gates and side returns. On a prepared site, setup takes about an hour. A flat, fully supported base matters, and it is worth walking the route in advance.
What to prepare before it arrives
AlumiTubs are built to order by hand, so lead times of several months are normal. That time is useful: prepare the site properly and you can be in the water the day it lands.
- Site. Any flat, level, fully supported surface. On a deck, confirm the structure carries the filled weight: 3,200 lbs for the Small, 5,000 for the Standard, 7,000 for the Large. Rigid insulation beneath the tub is required on concrete, gravel and pressure treated wood, and improves heat retention everywhere else. Allow access on all sides, and at least ten feet of vertical chimney clearance below anything overhanging on Wood Fired and Hybrid models.
- Access. Walk the route from the delivery point to the final position and clear anything in the way.
- Water. Confirm how it will be filled and drained. Off-grid, source the pump before the tub arrives.
- Power. On Electric and Hybrid models, get the connection in place beforehand. A 240V system needs a dedicated 30 amp, 4kW circuit installed by a certified electrician. Trenching is far easier before the tub is sitting there.
- Wood. Have seasoned hardwood ready for the first use. Oak, ash or maple give the most efficient burn. Green or wet wood will disappoint on the first soak.
