Every AlumiTub is a riveted 5052 marine-grade aluminum structure clad in Canadian Western Red Cedar, built and pressure-tested on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia since 2001, and carries a 25 year structural warranty. The figures below apply to all three heating systems unless a row says otherwise.

Heating

Wood Fired Electric Hybrid
Heat source Submerged firebox, the largest of its kind, welded 240V heating coil and filtration in cedar equipment steps Both, run alone or together
Heat-up from a cold fill About 2 hours Small, 3 Standard, 5 Large Up to 14 hours, about 3°F per hour; designed to hold or schedule, not heat on demand Wood times, faster with both running
Temperature control Stop adding wood at 95°F; water climbs to 101 to 104°F 50 to 104°F from the touchpad or Wi-Fi app, with timer schedules; filters about 12 hours a day by default Either; keep the fire from taking the water past 106°F
Overnight loss with the lid on A few degrees; about 5°F over 12 hours around freezing (0°C, 32°F), much less in warm weather None; holds the set point Either
Fuel per soak, Standard 1 to 2 bundles of dry hardwood; an armful a day to hold Electricity to hold the set point, reduced by scheduling
Freeze protection None; drain, or keep the fire going, or a stock tank heater if left filled Freeze protection mode circulates the water with the pump at about 44°F (7°C) for as long as there is power; it circulates rather than heats, and gives no protection in an outage, so drain the tub before a possible outage
Cools the water No system chills water; fill cold and leave the heat off for a cool soak
Tested heating in ambient conditions to Minus 44°C (minus 47°F)

Insulation

  • 3.5" of rigid insulation beneath the base (two layers, 1.5" and 2"), required on concrete, pressure treated wood and gravel
  • Full insulation wrap between the aluminum structure and the cedar cladding, 360 degrees
  • Floating insulation on the water surface, under the lid
  • Fabric lid 4" thick at the center tapering to 3" at the edges; cedar lid available

Power

Wood Fired Wood Fired with filtration Electric and Hybrid
Supply None Dedicated 15 amp grounded 120V outdoor outlet within 13 ft of the cedar equipment steps; the pump draws 2.2 amps and runs continuously at 200 W; no extension cords Dedicated 240V, 30 amp, 4 kW circuit, 18 amp draw, typically #10-3 wire, hardwired with GFCI protection (spa box disconnect) by a certified electrician, connected at setup
Cold-climate heater Optional 5.5 kW element, only for tubs heated by electricity alone, with no wood fire, in places that stay well below freezing; the standard 4 kW suits most tubs. It draws about 23 amps at 240V on its own, so it needs a larger GFCI-protected circuit than the standard 30 amp; your electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the heater specification
Conversion Compatibility ports optional at build for adding heating or filtration later 120V filtration converts to 240V heating with the same equipment: a replacement fuse and a hardwired GFCI connection in place of the plug-in cord
Outside North America 230V 50Hz markets use a Balboa BP200 control board and an LX WE14 50Hz pump; confirm before ordering
