AlumiTubs Wood Fired and Hybrid hot tubs are uniquely designed with an internal firebox, cool to touch under the water's surface. The firebox is separated from the seating area of the tub with a cedar protective fence to keep bodies away from the chimney.
The stainless steel chimney includes a spark-arresting chimney cap, and unlike bathtub shaped alternatives where people lay their heads next to the chimney and firebox, the AlumiTubs protective cedar fence creates safe separation without compromising on seating capacity.
AlumiTubs design uses an internal wood fired, submerged hot tub stove because it offers unparalleled heat quality fully immersed in water ensuring no energy loss, transferring heat directly to the water for a faster and more efficient heat time. Compared to chofu (external) fireboxes which are similar to a wood stove outside the hot tub, the internally submerged firebox is not a tripping or contact hazard.
In addition, the Wood Fire and Hybrid tubs are built with an extra large firebox for a low-smoke, high-efficiency burn which significantly reduces emissions compared to less efficient designs that can have an effect on air quality.
Preventing kids from unpervised access is an essential safety measure for all hot tubs, and every AlumiTub can be fit with a lockable fabric lid or a cedar lid with additional locking straps. The steps which house the electric heating & filtration system can be removed, and options for a deeper/taller construction to limit accessibility from the ground are also available.
Maintaining water quality and safety is straightforward with AlumiTubs non-porous surface that's more hygienic than alternative materials, providing a smooth, clean surface that prevents hidden bacterial growth.
GFCI protects against electrical shock hazard by sensing electrical fault conditions and interrupting the electric power applied to the equipment system. The equipment control system is protected from the elements in a weather-tight enclosure. A qualified electrician must make all electrical connections to the equipment control box in accordance with the National Electrical Code and in accordance with any local electrical codes in effect at the time of installation. A bonding lug is provided on the outside of the equipment system electrical controls box.
Choosing the right tub
The heating range for every property, season and terrain
-
The right heating system depends on how you want to soak, how often you plan to use the tub, and what the unique needs of your property are.
Choose the Wood Fired if you want a simple, off-grid soaking experience and enjoy the ritual of lighting a fire. If water is limited, a low voltage 120v plug & play filtration system can be added to conserve water for months of clean soaking at a time.
Choose the Electric if you want a tub that stays ready for regular use with built-in heating and filtration.
Choose the Hybrid if you want the flexibility to choose between the experience of wood-fired soaking, and the everyday convenience of electric heating and filtration.
Each system is interchangeable with the flexibility to add an alternative heating method as life unfolds or your property needs evolve.
-
All three heating systems share the same core construction, including marine-grade aluminium, cedar, stainless steel, and insulated design. The difference is in how they heat and how they fit into daily life.
The Wood Fired uses an internal submerged firebox and heats without electricity. The Electric uses a dedicated electric heating and filtration system to maintain temperature and keep water clean for longer stretches. The Hybrid gives you both, combining wood-fired heat with electric heating and filtration.
-
The Hybrid is a true two in one hot tub with the flexibility to heat by wood fire, electricity, or both, designed to give you both ways to heat and maintain your tub. You can enjoy the full ritual of a wood-fired soak, rely on the electric system for steady temperature and filtration, or use both together depending on the season and how you like to use it. It offers the atmosphere of wood fire with the added convenience of electric support in the background, electric heat plan during fire ban season or wood fire heat during power outages, and the flexibility to use both simultaneously - keeping the water at a low temp and bringing it up the rest of the way by wood fire.
Sizing and dimensions
3 sizes seating anywhere from 2-10 people
-
AlumiTubs are offered in three main diameters: 5ft Small, 6ft Standard, and 7ft Large. The Small suits more compact spaces and quieter soaks. The Standard size is the most versatile for everyday family use. The Large size gives the most room for gathering, longer limbs, and shared use without feeling crowded.
-
As a guide, the Wood Fired and Hybrid models comfortably suit around 2 people in the Small size, 5 people in the Standard size, and 8 people in the Large size. The Electric models suit around 4 people in the Small size, 7 people in the Standard size, and 10 people in the Large size, as the internal layout allows for more usable bathing space. In practice, comfort depends on how you like to soak, whether children are included, and whether you prefer a roomier or more social setup.
-
The standard depth is 38 inches, which is designed to comfortably cover the shoulders for most adults. Deeper 44-inch options are available on all systems (Wood Fired, Electric and Hybrid), and 48-inch options are also available for the Electric. Materials, durability, and warranty
Proven to outperform and outlast
AlumiTubs stands behind its craftsmanship & materials with an industry leading warranty. For over 25 years, AlumiTubs have been loved by thousands of families across North America, Australia, Europe and Asia. With the longest track record in the industry, AlumiTubs are proud to offer a quality-guarantee and lifetime customer support.
-
AlumiTubs bring together the warmth and beauty of cedar with the long-term stability of a marine-grade aluminium interior. Instead of relying on cedar, plastic or fibreglass to hold water, the aluminium construction creates a more durable and dependable foundation while preserving the natural look and feel that draws people to cedar in the first place. The result is a tub that is light, moveable, portable, naturally cleaner, more heat performant, and 100% guaranteed to never leak (a common characteristic of cedar and wooden hot tubs as a result of swelling and movement that come with the process of emptying & refilling). It is a more functional and practical approach to ownership, especially in demanding climates.
-
Like any natural outdoor material, the tone of cedar will soften and silver over time, developing the lived-in character many owners love. The aluminium interior is designed for longevity and will develop its own patina with age. Both materials are chosen to age honestly and well outdoors, working with nature. Cedar can also be treated, sanded and stained to accomplish different aesthetic goals, or to refinish it to achieve a different wood tone over time.
-
Marine grade aluminum is one of the most durable and long-lasting materials available for hot tubs. Used for boats, planes, and travel trailers - it's tough, lightweight, performant, and infinitely recyclable - making it a sustainable and practical hot tub material. Loved by over 10,000 families worldwide in all conditions, terrain, extreme weather, sensitive climates and at all property types, the AlumiTub has endured in all environments.
In a properly configured system, aluminum will remain stable, durable and maintenance-friendly for decades. Maintiaing its smooth surface can be achieved by following the approved heating and water treatment requirements provided in the AlumiTub manual. The AlumiTub is specifically designed to prevent pitting with a protective coating, water care ranges, and in some systems - the use of sacrifical anodes.
Note that while the AlumiTub can be built compatibly with external heat and chilling systems, these design changes introduce conditions in order to adequately maintain the integrity and smooth finish of the tubs aluminum. Email hi@alumitubs.com if you're unsure about the electrochemistry requirements of an aftermarket product you'd like to add to your tub.
-
No - aluminum does not rust like steel. It naturally forms a protective oxide layer that shields it from degradation. This is why aluminum is widely used in marine and architectural environments.
In the right conditions, aluminum remains structurally stable for decades.
-
What people describe as "pitting" is typically mineral or aluminum salt buildup, localized surface reactions, or small hardened deposits on the surface. These are cosmetic and removable, not structurally damaging. They can only occur in aluminum when the system is altered or imbalanced, and the presence of these surface changes are entirely avoidable, and usually treatable if they have occurred.
-
Prevention comes down to keeping the system consistent and balanced:
- Use approved heating methods only
- Avoid introducing dissimilar metals into the water
- Maintain balanced water chemistry
- Use recommended water care products
- Install and maintain sacrifical anodes in systems that require it
When these are followed, surface reactions are not possible. Avoiding mixed metals matters because when aluminum is in contact with other metals in water (like copper, brass, or some stainless components), it can create a galvanic reaction. This can lead to surface buildup, but keeping materials compatible and isolated prevents this entirely.
On tubs with electrical components, anodes must be replaced every 3-4 months during regular seasonal cleaning, or when these anodes have 30% remaining. They're used to absorb corrosive activity and protect the primary aluminum structure of the tub, safeguarding its surface from surface changes. They are not a substitute for incompatible applications of aftermarket materials.
Avoid unapproved chemical additives. Consistent, moderate chemistry protects both the water quality and the aluminum surface. Avoid chlorine, copper-based algae dies, unknown or mixed water treatment products, and metal components not designed for use in the system. When in doubt, email hi@alumitubs.com for guidance.

Cedar is a highly durable, world-renowned wood. Prized for its longevity, beauty and stability, it's naturally resistant to rot and decay, won't twist or warp, and is highly compatible with outdoor and wet environments. As a renewable material, it is biodegradable and harvested from responsibly managed forests.
When properly cared for, outdoor cedar products can last 20–40 years, and because cedar in the AlumiTub isn't relied on to form its structural integrity, it can be replaced with ease when needed. Cedar can be left to weather to a natural, silvery-grey patina, or it can be stained or sealed to maintain its original warm color.
Cedar needs no real maintenance in the AlumiTub apart from seasonal cleaning. Use a soft-bristled brush, water, and mild detergent on the cedar seats and firebox fence. Exterior cedar can be treated and stained so long as the product contains no copper.
-
AlumiTubs is backed by a warranty that reflects the long-term materials it is built from. The marine-grade aluminium structure and stainless steel components are covered by a 25-year structural leak-proof warranty. Cedar components are covered for 15 years against warping or degrading beyond reasonable wear, and the firebox is covered for 10 years with proper use. Natural ageing in cedar, aluminium, and stainless steel is considered part of normal outdoor life, not a defect. Coverage applies to the original purchaser with proper maintenance, and used in line with AlumiTubs’ manual.
Heating and performance
Made to get hot and stay hot, using less along the way
-
AlumiTubs are designed for a safe soaking temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Wood Fired can easily achieve higher temperatures which can be useful for planning ahead, and will retain its temperature indefinitely by keeping the lid on between soaks, adding approximately an armful of wood a day to maintain its temperature.
On the Electric and Hybrid models, the electric system allows you to manage water temperature anywhere from 50 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, with app-based controls, timer-based efficiency settings, and a built-in touchpad for easy heat management.
-
That depends on the heating system, the size of the tub, the starting water temperature, and the conditions outside.
As a guide, the Wood Fired heats in around 90 minutes for the Small, 2.5 hours for the Standard, and 4-5 hours for the Large using dry wood. The Hybrid can speed up that initial heat time by pairing wood-fired heat with electric support, while also giving you the option to maintain temperature automatically. Both the Hybrid and the Electric retain their heat automatically.
-
Yes. AlumiTubs are built with 360 degrees of insulation to reduce heat loss and hold temperature efficiently between soaks.
The Electric maintains a set temperature automatically. The Hybrid can do the same through its electric system while also giving you the option of wood-fired heat. The Wood Fired is built to get hot and stay hot, with just an armful of wood a day helping hold temperature once it is up to heat. How long it stays hot between adding wood to the firebox will still vary depending on use, whether the lid is on, and the weather.
-
Yes. AlumiTubs are built for year-round use, with insulation, efficient heat transfer, and cold-weather performance designed to support real winter soaking. The Electric is the most hands-off option for all-season use. The Hybrid adds flexibility where power access or usage patterns vary. The Wood Fired is equally suited to year-round use, offering a more elemental soaking experience. All options can be configured with filtration to keep the water clean for frequent use.
-
Yes. The Wood Fired is the natural choice for fully off-grid soaking, heating with wood alone and requiring no electricity for the soaking experience itself. It is designed for places where simplicity, self-sufficiency, and a more elemental ritual matter just as much as performance.
For buyers who want that same wood-fired experience with added support for water care, there is also a Wood Fired + Filtration option. This includes a concealed 120V plug-in filtration unit built into the cedar steps, helping keep the water clean and clear for longer between changes.
-
The Electric and the Hybrid are the most practical options in places where fire bans or burn restrictions are part of the year. The Hybrid gives you the flexibility of wood-fired soaking when conditions allow, with electric heating and filtration there when they do not. That means you are not relying on a single heat source and can keep using the tub more consistently across changing seasons and local restrictions.
-
All AlumiTubs can be paired with either a cedar lid or a lockable fabric lid.
Both help reduce heat loss and improve heat retention, especially in colder weather. A good lid makes the tub more efficient to run, helps maintain temperature between soaks, and adds to the ease of year-round use.
Winter Use & Winterization
Field tested in -44 degree weather
Canadians know cold, and one thing we know for certain is that you’ll never be cold in an AlumiTub. Effortlessly achieving any soaking temperature 365 days a year, no matter how cold it gets outside.
-
Yes. AlumiTubs are built for real winter use, proven to perform in extremely cold conditions. With 360 degrees of insulation, optional insulated lids, and efficient heating systems designed to perform in freezing conditions, the AlumiTub will perform in all weather.
The Wood Fired offers a more elemental winter soaking experience, especially for owners who enjoy heating the tub with fire and using it regularly through the colder months.
The Electric and Hybrid add more convenience, with automated temperature management and added freeze protection for a more hands-off approach.
-
That depends on the model and how long the tub will be left unattended. If you are using the tub regularly, keeping it heated and covered is often the simplest approach. On the Electric and Hybrid, the system can maintain temperature and offer added freeze protection between uses.
On the Wood Fired, owners who are not using the tub consistently through winter may prefer to drain it rather than leave it sitting full. If the tub is left unattended and filled with water, additional freeze-prevention tools such as a pond de-icer or trough heater would be required to prevent freezing - but the tub would still need emptying after long periods of time to maintain clean soaking water, so emptying it is often the better method.
On Electric & Hybrid tubs, built-in freeze protection mode will automatically engage the pump when the temperature sensor detects 44F degrees. If there’s risk of power outage, the tub can be powered off and drained to prevent freezing.
-
If your property will sit unattended for extended periods in freezing weather, the safest approach is usually to winterise the tub rather than leave it full. In practical terms, that means draining it completely, making sure no standing water remains, and covering it properly until you are ready to use it again. AlumiTubs are designed to make that process straightforward, especially because the aluminium interior can be fully drained and dried. If the tub won't be in use for an extended period of time, emptying the water is also the safest way to avoid water imbalances.
For properties that stay occupied and on-grid, some owners choose to keep water above freezing instead, but for long unattended stretches, a full winter shutdown is often the more reliable option.
-
Yes, if you plan to use it regularly through winter. AlumiTubs are designed for real cold-weather use and can be kept above freezing with the right routine. For the Wood Fired, that can be as simple as maintaining heat with an armful of wood a day. The Electric and Hybrid offer a more hands-off approach, with electric heat and added freeze protection between soaks. If the tub will be left unused for long periods in freezing weather, winterising is usually the better option: drain it fully, make sure no standing water remains, and cover it properly until you are ready to use it again.
Installation, setup, and site planning
Pre-assembled, lightweight, and ready to roll - it's made to go anywhere
-
No. AlumiTubs are designed to arrive pre-assembled and ready to place, with no crane, plumbing, or complicated on-site assembly required. In most cases, the tub is simply rolled into position and set on a flat, properly supported surface. The main exception is for models that require electrical connection, where a certified electrician is needed to make a hardwired connection and final tie-in.
-
AlumiTubs are designed to sit on a flat, solid, fully supportive surface. Depending on the model and the site, that can include grass, compacted gravel, concrete, deck installations, pavers, or other stable ground-level setups. The key is not a specialised foundation, but a level base that can comfortably support the filled weight of the tub.
-
Yes, provided the structure, support, and drainage are planned properly. AlumiTubs can suit deck installations and more integrated landscape settings, and the drain position can be adapted to work more cleanly with those layouts. The main consideration is making sure the base is level, properly supported, and designed with access and water drainage in mind. The Drain Kit accessory provides an easy way to empty the water using a garden hose, leading it to any convenient location.
Note that the Wood Fired and Hybrid chimney must have a minimum 10ft clearance from buildings and flammable objects. For decks and patios the structure must be able to support 5000 lbs for the Standard hot tub and 6500 lbs for the Large.
The Electric requires a 240v 4.0kw hardwired connection. A connection can be trenched to a convenient location on your property. The Electric is designed to take up minimal space in your electrical panel with a 18 amp draw and a 30 amp dedicated circuit with all components pre-assembled needing no further installation.
For customers who choose the 120v heating unit for the Hybrid (as opposed to the 240), the tub requires no hardwiring or panel upgrades, but must be placed within 15ft of an outdoor receptacle.
Drawings available. Please email hi@alumitubs.com.
-
AlumiTubs are built with a drain on the base of the tub and can be used with a Drain Kit to conveniently connect to a hose for emptying the water where you want it to go at the touch of a valve. Alternatively, the drain can be positioned on the side of the tub if preferred for decks and other landscape integrated settings. For those not wanting a drain, a battery held sump pump will empty the water quickly and conveniently. We’ll be happy to help recommend the best drainage solution for your unique assembly.
-
Setup is designed to be simple and relatively quick. Site prep support is provided by our team ahead of time, ensuring a flat, fully supportive surface is prepared before the tubs arrival. Once the tub is on site and in position, it can be set up within one to two hours by property owners themselves. If installing an electric system with a hardwired connection, a certified electrician is needed to make the final tie-in.
-
No. AlumiTubs are designed to arrive pre-assembled and light enough (ranging from 200-240lbs) to be rolled into place by hand, which is one of the practical advantages over many traditional hot tubs. If access is especially tight, stepped, or sloped, the AlumiTub can also be lifted into place, or a combination of rolling and lifting can be achieved with 2-3 people.
Electrical requirements
flexible & interchangeable options for every property
-
The Electric comes with a pre-assembled electric heating and filtration system housed inside weather-proof cedar steps that sit against the side of the tub which also provide access. It is designed as a 240V system with an 18 amp draw, requiring a 30 amp dedicated circuit and a hardwired connection by a certified electrician.
-
The Hybrid pairs wood-fired heat with the Electric hot tubs integrated heating and filtration system, giving you the flexibility of both. It is available in either a 120V or 240V system and the two power options can be interchanged over time as needs evolve. The 120V option requires a 15-amp dedicated circuit and a standard outdoor receptacle within 13 feet of the weather-proof cedar steps.
The 240V option requires an 18-amp draw, a 30-amp dedicated circuit, and a hardwired connection by a certified electrician. The system arrives pre-assembled, so once the power connection is in place, it is ready to use with a final tie-in.
-
Yes. If your AlumiTub includes electric heating and filtration, it should have its own power supply. In simple terms, that means it should not share power with other lights, appliances, or outdoor outlets.
-
For the Electric and Hybrid hardwired setup, yes. For lower-voltage configurations that use an outdoor receptacle, buyers should still make sure the circuit and outlet are suitable for the load and compliant with local code.
-
A 120V system is available for the Hybrid where a property's power is limited. The Wood Fired + Filtration configuration also uses a 120V plug-in system. Plugging in to an outdoor receptacle, it does not need a hardwired connection, only a 15-amp dedicated circuit. Limited by its heating capacity, the low voltage 120V heating system is designed to augment wood fired heat by keeping the water at 85 degrees farenheit, making it incompatible for exclusive electric heat.
By contrast, the 240V default electric heating & filtration system delivers strong electric performance, with faster heat-up and quicker recovery, reaching 104 degrees Fahrenheit without the use of wood fire. Buyers who will use the Hybrid exclusively with electric heat & filtration at any point will want the performance of the 240V heating & filtration system.
-
Yes. Wi-Fi control is available as an add-on for the Electric and Hybrid models, giving you more flexibility in how you manage heat & filtration settings between soaks. You can maintain a steady temperature, lower it when the tub is not in use, and bring it back up on a schedule so it is ready when you want it. It is especially useful for second homes, guest properties, and anyone who wishes to conserve energy when the tub won't be in use.
Water care and filtration
Every AlumiTub is made to conserve precious resources
The AlumiTubs' marine grade aluminum foundation provides a non-porous, easily cleanable surface that can be filled with water from the ocean, lake, river, or garden hose.
-
That depends on the model. The Electric and Hybrid keep water clean through a built-in filtration system that continuously circulates and filters the water, making day-to-day care much simpler. The Wood Fired is a more elemental setup, with water typically changed more often depending on how the tub is used. For those who want the ritual of wood fire with added support for water care, the Wood Fired + Filtration option adds a concealed plug-in filtration unit within the cedar steps.
-
As a guide, the Electric and Hybrid models can keep water clean and clear for around seasonally for three to four months with filtration and a consistent treatment routine. The Wood Fired on its own without filtration added is a simpler setup and is generally better suited to shorter water cycles, with many owners changing the water after a few weeks depending on use, bathing habits, and the conditions outside.
-
AlumiTubs are designed to work with a simple water care routine. Depending on your model, your water source, and how often you soak, that may include conventional hot tubs treatments like granulated bromine or floaters, plant-enzyme treatments, pH and calcium adjusters, or a chemical-free routine that involves filling and emptying the tub from a natural body of water, like the ocean or lake. AlumiTubs also now offers the Good Clean Living Natural Hot Tub Cleaner, a chlorine-free, plant-derived cleaning collection for hot and cold tubs with or without filtration.
The right water treatment plan depends on the type of water that will be used in the tub, whether the tub is being used frequently, periodically, or commercially. The AlumiTub manual outlines different water treatment routines that are easy to follow for different use cases.
-
Yes. AlumiTubs are well-suited to a simpler, lower-chemical approach to soaking. Many owners choose to keep things minimal by starting with clean water, rinsing before use, changing the water regularly, and using gentle treatment only as needed.
On the Electric and Hybrid, built-in filtration helps support longer clean-water cycles. On the Wood Fired, a more natural routine can work well too, especially with lighter use and more frequent water changes.
For those who want the wood-fired experience with longer-lasting water, there is also a Wood Fired + Filtration option, which adds a concealed filtration unit built into the cedar steps.
For a more natural approach, AlumiTubs also offers its own plant-based & low chemical water care products.
-
On models with built-in filtration, the filter should be cleaned regularly to keep water care simple and effective. As a guide, AlumiTubs recommends cleaning the electric filter around every 2 weeks with heavier use, or about once a month with lighter use.
-
Yes. Filtration can be added to the Wood Fired through the Wood Fired + Filtration option, which includes a concealed 120V plug-in filtration unit built into the cedar steps. It helps keep the water clean and clear for longer, up to around 3 to 4 months, and is a good fit for buyers who want the ritual of wood-fired soaking with less frequent draining.
-
Yes. AlumiTubs are built with a marine-grade aluminium foundation used in boats, which makes them saltwater compatible. For lighter-use, weekend-style soaking, some owners keep things very simple. On the Wood Fired, saltwater without added chemicals keeps the water clean for around 10 days before it is ready to be refreshed. For longer water cycles, especially on filtered models, a more consistent treatment routine is still recommended.
-
When using water treatments in any hot tub, it's important to check water chemistry using test strips to ensure bather safety. Water in the AlumiTub should be maintained between 7.2 and 7.8 pH, hardness should be kept between 150-250 ppm. Do not exceed 2.5 ppm bromine, 50 ppm hydrogen peroxide, or use chlorine, pucks or treatments not approved by AlumiTubs.
An adjuster can be used to manage pH to protect the materials of the tub. Calcium products are used to increase hardness / adjust ppm. Bromine, hydrogen peroxide and hardness all use a ppm scale and each should be maintained at a specific level if using those treatments.

One of the practical advantages of an AlumiTub is that it is lightweight and designed to be rolled into place by hand, without the need for a crane or special equipment. The pallet can fit in the back of a truck, trailer, and many small boats.
For depot/freight center deliveries, the tub will be forklifted into your truck or trailer. When arriving at your destination, the AlumiTub can be rolled off a truckbed or trailer using 2x6's with cleats. The tubs are lightweight enough for 1-2 people to roll or even lift. Check out our how-to video at the bottom of this page.
If the tub is shipped directly to your residence, it will be moved off the shipping truck where it can then be unpalletized and rolled into place.

Yes. An AlumiTub can be enjoyed in different ways across the seasons, including as a cool summer plunge or splash pool. Some owners simply fill the tub with cold water or add ice for a refreshing cold plunge, while others build a broader hot-and-cold ritual around contrast therapy. The AlumiTub can also be built with ports for your own external chiller. Email hi@alumitubs.com to custom order a chiller-compatible tub.
